In a context shaped by global accessibility and capitalist development that has eroded local identity and historic neighbourhoods, Raw Threshold asks what it means to be local today. At Al Qasimiyah School, newly created pedestrian access points from the north and west converge on a platform that becomes a welcoming public threshold. The installation forms a shaded, inhabitable structure using reclaimed wooden utility poles from the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) and palm mats commonly used across the region. Raw and tactile in character, the intervention is designed for adaptability, allowing it to be disassembled, reused, or relocated.
